Anti-Aging Products and How They Work

Anti-Aging Products and How They Work

There are tons of anti-aging products that will help you reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on your skin, but how effective they are depends on the ingredients list and how you use them.  There are typically two different types of anti-aging products that you can use: creams or lotions.  Creams are blends of liquids and oils with oil being the largest component.  They are thicker than lotions and they are absorbed easily by your skin.  They tend to be long lasting when you apply them to your face.  Lotions on the other hand have more liquid and are absorbed even better than creams. While all that is interesting, the ingredients that go into both creams and lotions are what makes them work.

Common ingredients in anti-aging products

While the ingredients are different in each product here are some of the more common ones:

Retinol: This is a vitamin A compound that works as an antioxidant and it will help repair the damage caused by free radicals on your skin.

Hydroxyl Acids:  Hydroxyl acids come in three different varieties, alpha, beta and poly.  They are exfoliants and remove the upper layer of dead skin and encourage new smother and younger looking skin.  Here is a video on how they work.

Vitamin C:  If you have sun damaged skin then you need to find anti-aging products with vitamin C, it will help protect your skin from damage caused by the sun.

When to Apply Anti-Aging Products

While the ingredients are important you also need to use them properly for them to be effective.  Here is how and when to apply anti-aging creams and lotions.

First rule is to only use one product at a time, using more than one can irritate your skin and make the fine lines and wrinkles even more noticeable.  You also should always test the product on your arm before applying it to your face.  If there is no reaction such as itching, or redness then it is safe to apple on your face or body.

Read the directions on how to use the product, the manufacturer gives specific instructions for the best use.  Don’t forget to use moisturizer.  Moisturizers keep moisture trapped in your skin and that will also reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  It gives you a brighter and more youthful look.

Protect Your Skin from Aging and Damage

Simply using anti-aging products isn’t enough you also need to protect your skin from damage.  This means protecting your skin from the sun and its harmful rays, not only does the sun age you it also causes skin cancer.  Dermatologists will tell you to avoid the sun between 10am and 2pm when it is at its strongest.  Even if you can’t avoid the sun at this time make sure you apply sunscreen and it has an SPF of at least 30 or better.  Sunglasses will protect the delicate skin around your eyes.
